For over 125 years, the strength of American Humane has been its membership. This powerful network of sheltering, welfare, and protection professionals has helped carry our mission of protecting children and animals across the country.

Just as we depend on our members to support our efforts, our members depend on us to support theirs. Our goals are simple:

* Increase the abilities, knowledge, and effectiveness of child and animal protection professionals and protective service agencies.
* Enhance communities’ capacity to respond effectively to the needs of vulnerable children and animals.
* Improve the information and support available to public and private child welfare and animal agencies so they can respond more effectively to child and animal abuse and neglect.
* Facilitate a concerted and interactive national response to the problem of child and animal maltreatment.
